Blessed are the pure of heart for they will see God.
– Matthew 5:8
It is both a blessing and a curse that the affections of our heart are not cemented in place. They ebb and drift as our eyes and our minds do. These three things, our heart, mind and eyes are constantly in tension, weighing and influencing upon each other.
It is also true there exists a significant correlation between our affections and our understanding, if we love evil (that which is not of God) we cannot understand that which is good. If our heart is clogged our eyes are dimmed. How can we see a Holy God if we love unholy things?
How then are we made pure? Inwardly by the intaking of the Holy Spirit and the word of God, what Paul so adeptly describes as the renewing of our mind. And outwardly by the hearing and obedience to that Spirit and that word. The outworking of this holy principal is a daily commitment, remember your heart drifts as your eyes and your mind do.
But the reward!
What a privilege and wonder to be able to see the Almighty God, the creator of the heavens and the earth, the bringer and sustainer of life! A gift beyond compare.
Today church let’s turn our minds and our prayers toward that which is Holy. Let’s begin a journey of shifting our heart toward purity and holding it fast.
Praying for you and with you today church
