For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.
Matthew 18:20
Unity is a function of both spirit and body. Gathering in the physical causes a gathering in the spiritual and when we gather Jesus walks among us, His word promises us it is so.
God is omnipresent, always with us, But Jesus lays the foundation here for one of the great precepts of the kindgom of God, that physical and spiritual unity achieve something greater than the sum of our contributing parts. God reveals himself differently in that moment.
As humans we might wish this truth away when it offends our sense of the individual but our desire to wrestle with the truth does not make the truth anything less than it is.
We might be holding fast to a single idea or not gathering together as Christ commended us to, and keeping ourselves from unity. Better to gladly surrender that small thing as the price of a greater victory. Anything forfeit in this moment pales into insignificance against the great glory that God desires to pour out on us in our unity.
It’s Sunday church, let’s come together in spirit and in body and see God reveal hinself in an ever increasing way.
Praying for you and with you
